Leopard is for you! by Phil Shepard

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

What is Leopard?  This is the name for the latest version of Apple's Macintosh Operating System that was released on October 26, 2007.  I have been using it daily on my primary work computer and I like Leopard a lot.  I think you will like it also.  Even though it does have impressive new features, I also appreciate how Apple has improved applications and features that I use daily.  Mail, Safari, and Time Machine are three of my favorites in Leopard.  Apple has a suggested list price of $129 and you may learn more about the features here: Leopard Features

The minimum system requirements are:

(1) Apple Macintosh computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster processor)

(2) 512MB of physical RAM

(3) DVD drive

(4) 9GB of free storage

If you need help deciding if your Macintosh computer will support Leopard, just contact us by email or give us a call: 919-782-4455.

As with any major operating system release it is not wise to rush in and upgrade without a plan.  Even though the installer is easier than ever, the potential for data loss and disruption of productivity remains.  For most home users, make sure you have a complete backup and then go ahead with Leopard.  If you have concerns about certain applications or devices working with Leopard, just contact us.  For business users MacVantage suggests you test Leopard on one Macintosh computer in your work environment before any widespread deployment.  We know it is difficult to resist the marketing and the peer pressure but it would be wise to test Leopard because nobody else has a work environment that is just like yours.

Do you need a server?  If you are not sure, contact MacVantage and let us help you decide.  Apple's Leopard Server is a fantastic upgrade of Mac OS X Server.  New services are included and the installation and configuration have been simplified.
